SALT LAKE CITY – Figuring out what to eat every day can be stressful and exhausting. That’s why some people like to plan their meals. But what does the meal planning process look like?

In the latest Let’s Get Moving with Maria podcast episode, Maria Shilaos spoke with Alix Mackey, a Nutrition Coach and Professional Chef, to learn some meal planning hacks that we can all try at home.

Most people think of meal planning as the same thing as meal prepping. However, it’s actually a lot simpler because you just need to create a plan of what you’re going to eat.

“It can be a plan for one dinner or for seven dinners. You can plan for your breakfast or for your lunch. But really, it’s just a plan for you or the people in your family, or the household that you feed.” Mackey said.

So how can you start? One piece of advice is to start slow.

“If you’ve never meal planned before, start by thinking about your family-favorite meals,” Mackey said.

You should also think about the people you’re feeding and how much time you’ll need to cook the meal. If you’re on a busy schedule, then don’t try to make a complicated meal that will take a lot of time.

“Start by planning one or two meals a week … Start slow and keep it simple. Meal planning doesn’t have to be complicated meals. It also doesn’t have to be a brand new meal every night,” Mackey said.
