SALT LAKE CITY – If you like to travel but don’t have a travel preparation checklist, then it’s time to make one.

In the latest Let’s Get Moving with Maria podcast episode, Maria Shilaos spoke with Claire Newell, Travel Expert and Founder of Travel Best Bets, to learn how she prepares for her trips. From navigating airport security to packing efficiently to traveling on a budget, together they unpack everything you need to know to travel stress-free.

Traveling can make a huge difference in your life. It’s one of the best ways to learn about tolerance and respect for other people’s cultures.

“Nothing has made travel a bigger priority than what we’ve experienced due to COVID-19. I think people are so grateful to be able to have the ability to travel and experience other cultures,” Newell said.

As much as traveling sounds fun, there are certain parts of it that aren’t as exciting, like the preparation aspect. Take airport security, for example.

“You may need a VISA to get into certain countries. The VISA can be done sometimes online. Sometimes it has to be in person at a Consulate or Embassy. Or you may have to actually send your travel documents,” Newell said.

Some places will also require an eTA, which stands for Electronic Travel Authorization.

“This is typically something that you need to do within 48 to 72 hours before you leave. If you don’t have it, they won’t let you on the aircraft,” Newell said.

You can apply for it online, and the fee will be anywhere between $5 and $15. Starting in 2024, most of the EU will require it.
