SALT LAKE CITY – If you’re not a gym person, fear not. Walking can be just as beneficial for your health, and what’s great is you don’t always have to go outside.

In the latest Let’s Get Moving with Maria podcast episode, Maria Shilaos spoke with GymBird Co-founder Ashley Walton to learn how she’s encouraging people to start walking more and all the health benefits we can enjoy, simply by taking a walk.

Have you heard of GymBird’s Chief Step Officer project? It’s a move they started to motivate people to get more steps in every day.

“We really wanted to introduce something that is pretty easy and accessible for most people to start a fitness routine, or to enhance a fitness routine that they’re already doing,” Walton said.

Walking brings so many health benefits, such as strengthening our immune system, keeping our bones strong, boosting our mental health, and more.

When people talk about the number of steps we should get in a day, most of them think of the number 10,000. However, don’t let that big of a number discourage you from taking even a shorter walk. You can still see some benefits even if you don’t reach that number every single day.

“I think the biggest challenge is time… It takes a lot of time to walk 10,000 steps a day, unless you have a job where you’re on your feet all day. So we recommend booking time on your calendar and setting aside time in your day to walk or do other forms of exercise,” Walton said.
