SALT LAKE CITY — Utah health officials say there’s no vaccine shortage and are responding to online rumors suggesting otherwise. However, they urge people to get caught up on immunizations, as 10 cases have been confirmed in the state.
Dr. Stacey Bank with the Utah Department of Health and Human Services says the state is stocked up on measles vaccines.
“There’s no supply issue,” said Bank. “We would not ask anybody to delay their vaccination. In fact, we’re really encouraging that everybody takes the time to get caught up on their immunizations.”
According to DHHS, vaccination is the only way to curb the spread of measles.
The warning comes as the state’s number of confirmed cases notches up to 10. Seven cases are in Utah County and three are in the southwest corner of the state.
Health officials say double-checking vaccine records is especially important right now, with school just weeks away. And DHHS assures there is enough supply to meet the state’s demand.
