OGDEN, Utah — A Weber County task force is in the beginning stages of creating a housing master plan in the hopes of providing guidelines for future housing developments and recreation.
Utahns are dealing with the housing crisis much like the rest of the country. But some counties are trying their best to aid residents.
Amid the housing crisis, Weber County is making its effort to outline the best places for developments.
Weber County was short 1300 housing units for low and very low-income households in 2019, according to a Wasatch Front Regional Council study.
The effort is part of the Weber Area Council of Government’s Housing Master Plan.
The Master Plan is set to be created in the hopes to outline the best areas for housing, including affordable housing, and where open space should be preserved.
Although the Master Plan might have the county’s best interest in mind, cities will not be required to honor it.
Ogden holds 65% of the affordable housing in the county, by projecting where affordable housing will be successful in other areas, the county hopes promotes growth outside of just Ogden.
