NORTH SALT LAKE, Utah — A proposed Davis County homeless shelter drew a large crowd to the North Salt Lake City Council chambers Tuesday night.

Over a hundred residents attended, filling the room to capacity and extending into the lobby.

“We’re really concerned about the proposed homeless shelter on Center because of the rushed process, the lack of community involvement. We really didn’t have an opportunity to sound our concerns,” said President of Foxborough North HOA Jeff Meyer.

He believes the geography just doesn’t make sense.

“It’s five miles away from the nearest FrontRunner train, six miles away from the nearest TRAX stop, and the nearest drug treatment facility is about a three hour walk away.”

Residents in the neighborhood are also reportedly concerned about how close the shelter would be to schools and children.

“This proposed site is also really close to schools, including a school for special needs students… Which raises the concern about the impact on our educational environment,” Meyer said.

The City Council made it clear no decisions would be made at the meeting, only to gather public comments and concerns.
