Church News podcast celebrates 30 years of ‘The Family Proclamation’ with a KSL NewsRadio Special

SALT LAKE CITY — In September 2025, members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints commemorated the 30th anniversary of “The Family: A Proclamation to the World.”
Known by many in the Church as The Family Proclamation, it teaches that families are central to God’s plan.
Throughout that celebration, the Church News has released four of five planned episodes featuring interviews with scholars from inside and outside the Church, as well as messages from Church Presidents, leaders, and general authorities since the proclamation’s publication.
On Sunday, October 5th, 2025, on KSL NewsRadio, a special combined down version of the first four podcasts will be broadcast at noon called “30 Years of The Family Proclamation,” with a longer version published later in KSL’s “Conference Conversations” podcast.
This special joins a series created around The 195th Semiannual General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which will be held over five sessions on October 4-5, 2025.
In this radio special, Church News editor Ryan Jensen and reporter Mary Richards discuss supportive research, personal blessings, and the words of church leaders in support of the family as the fundamental unit of society.
Four of the five Church News podcast Family Proclamation episodes are already published and can be found at TheChurchNews.com or on your favorite podcasting platform. The fifth episode is scheduled for publication on Tuesday, October 14, 2025.

The Family Proclamation special features
The Family Proclamation special features audio given by the late President Gordon B. Hinckley from the pulpit of the Salt Lake Tabernacle in the October 1995 general conference when he originally presented the proclamation.
It also includes commentary on the family from each president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints since that time.
This includes a closing segment that heavily features the recently passed President Russell M. Nelson (1924—2025), who died on September 27, 2025, at the age of 101.

Guest Jenet Erickson, an associate professor of Religious Education at Brigham Young University, will also feature within the special.
Erickson teaches, researches and presents on the family as a fellow of both the Wheatley Institute and the Institute for Family Studies discussing the divine design of the family, mothers’ well-being, and how the proclamation’s principles promote family stability and happiness.

Also featured are co-directors of Brigham Young University’s American Families of Faith Project, Loren Marks and David Dollahite, both of whom are professors of family life at Brigham Young University.
They highlight their 25-year interfaith research on religiously active families and how resilience is built through faith practices.
