SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Department of Transportation said the summer road construction season is just starting to heat up, with several more major projects on deck.
Bangerter Highway is losing some of its interchanges and those areas will be changed into freeway style on and off ramps. John Gleason with UDOT says this should alleviate some of the congestion in that area.
“It improves safety by eliminating some of those conflict points,” he said. “It also helps people get to where they’re going with more ease.”
Gleason said they are also widening 90th South between Redwood Road and 700 West from five lanes to seven.
“This is a project that is going to improve the condition of the road, and hopefully enhance safety for drivers.”
Additionally, 5600 South near Hill Airforce Base will get a significant overhaul. Gleason said they’ll be widening it from three lanes to five.
“This project’s also going to build a new trail system for people that are walking and bicyclists,” he said.
UDOT is planning to repave the area to smooth out all the damage the road got this winter. It hasn’t given a timeline for the exact start or completion dates.
