DRAPER, Utah — The area around The Point development is booming. That’s why the Utah Department of Transportation is focused on making more alternatives to I-15 to ease traffic congestion in the years to come.
“We do know that there’s potential growth within the next 20 years and we got to accommodate to that,” said UDOT Region 2 Communications Manager Kylar Sharp.
Sharp said there isn’t a ton they can do with I-15 at this point.
Alternatives like Mountain View Corridor and Bangerter will play a big part in making driving easier around the Salt Lake/Utah County line.
UDOT is working to connect Mountain View between Porter Rockwell and Saratoga Springs and create freeway-style interchanges on Bangerter Highway on 13400, 9800, 4700 South and 2700 West. UDOT expects to finish this by 2026.
According to Sharp, there are future plans to create a two or three-lane freeway in between what’s now Mountain View.
“That Mountain View Corridor expansion, which will be a full mini freeway system, that will take some time,” he said.
“Currently… we have a two-lane road going in each direction. The mini freeway will be built in between that. So, those two roads that are there currently, will become like the frontage road system [and] have on and off ramps… Where the mini freeway system is built, there will be great separated interchanges,” Sharp said.
