SALT LAKE CITY — UTA has been working to prepare for the potential 2034 Olympics. But will our transportation system be able to handle the crowds by then?

One major consideration that could impact Utah’s bid is being able to move thousands of people quickly and efficiently.

In just eight days the announcement will be made for who will host the 2034 games. However, UTA said their future plans don’t depend on Salt Lake winning the bid.

According to UTA Executive Director Jay Fox, one of their plans is to add another TRAX line.

“The orange line is part of the TRAX modernization project and that’s going to add a line from the airport all the way up to University of Utah’s Research Park,” said Fox.

Regardless of if Salt Lake is awarded the 2034 Winter Games next week, the line will be added.

And that’s not the only good news about our preparations. Fox said their express service is already better than it was in 2002.

One improvement that has been made since 2002 is the distance someone can travel. Currently, one could use express transit to get from Weber State to Brigham Young University.

“All the projects we’re looking at would benefit the 2034 Olympics are already being developed or actually being implemented and executed so the great thing is it not only benefits the 2034 Olympics, but will help people both before and after,” said Fox.

Fox said someone, particularly a 2034 Olympic visitor, could get anywhere they need to go totally on transit.

THIS MONTH, KSL IS PARTNERING WITH ZEROREZ TO PROVIDE NEWS COVERAGE OF THE SALT LAKE 2034 ANNOUNCEMENT.
