17 new temples announced by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

SALT LAKE CITY — In his final remarks during the 192nd General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, President Russell M. Nelson announced 17 new temples to be built across the world.
None of the newly announced temples are in Utah.
“Positive spiritual momentum increases as we worship in the temple and grow in our understanding of the magnificent breadth and depth of blessings we receive there,” President Nelson said. “I plead with you to counter worldly ways by focusing on the eternal blessings of the temple. Your time there brings blessings for eternity.”
The temples will be built in the following locations:
- Wellington, New Zealand
- Brazzaville, Republic of Congo
- Barcelona, Spain
- Birmingham, United Kingdom
- Cusco, Peru
- Maceió, Brazil
- Santos, Brazil
- San Luis Potosí, Mexico
- Mexico City Benemérito, Mexico
- Tampa, Florida
- Knoxville, Tennessee
- Cleveland, Ohio
- Wichita, Kansas
- Austin, Texas
- Missoula, Montana
- Montpelier, Idaho
- Modesto, California
According to the church, President Nelson has announced 100 new temples since he became the institution’s leader in 2018.
Latter-day Saints were only recently allowed to return to temples across the world in their full capacities. Operations had been restricted for the better half of two years because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The recently finished temple in Japan is set to host open houses in early summer, while in St. George, renovations on the temple there continue after two years.
Just back in March, the church announced some groundbreaking dates for temples in Utah and California. That came just months after its leaders announced groundbreaking dates in January.
Meantime, the Salt Lake City temple remains under construction until 2025. The temple was supposed to be finished in 2024 but was delayed for further seismic strengthening.
