FORT WORTH, Texas — American Airlines announced that it will begin offering nonstop, roundtrip service to and from Provo airport in the fall.

According to a press release from the airline, it will be offering three daily flights. Two of the flights will be from Provo to Dallas/Fort Worth airport in Texas. The third will service Phoenix.

Each of the flights will have room for 65 passengers and nine will be first class. They will fly in both directions, taking off or landing in Provo.

American Airlines said that it will be flying Bombardier CRJ 700 planes for the new routes.

“We are thrilled to offer service to Provo for the first time starting this fall,” said Joe Sottile, director of domestic network planning
for American Airlines.

The new direct flights will offer American Airlines customers more options for connecting flights, according to the press release.

Provo Airport has a “forward-looking vision”

“We had a forward-looking vision when we built the Provo Airport. The monumental announcement of the arrival of American Airlines proves we were on their radar as much as our airport tower will soon be on theirs,” Provo Mayor Michelle Kaufusi said.

Built in the 1940s, Provo Airport began as an airstrip, per its website.

In 2005, the air traffic control tower was added, enabling commercial service at the airport.

In summer 2022, the current 70,000-square-foot terminal was opened. It serves more than 116,000 travelers each year.

Provo Airport Director Brian Torgerson said that service from a major airline has been a goal for the airport.

“We have been telling our story to all who would listen, and American Airlines has stepped up to provide exceptional service to two exceptional major hub airports,” said Torgerson.

Provo Airport will be the third Utah destination added to American Airlines’ roster. It now services Salt Lake City International and St. George Regional Airport.

American Airlines said passengers can purchase tickets for the new hub beginning April 22.
