Anh Day Pham, arrested for crashes with pedestrians in Salt Lake, now linked to Summit County case

PARK CITY — A Murray man already facing multiple attempted murder charges for a series of hit-and-run crashes in Salt Lake County has now been linked to another case in Summit County.

Anh Day Pham, 28, was charged Thursday in Summit County’s 3rd District Court with attempted murder, a first-degree felony, or, in the alternative, aggravated assault, a third-degree felony.

The alleged incident happened on March 5, 2024, when a woman walking along the shoulder of Sun Peak Drive approached Bear Hollow Drive around 4:30 p.m.

“She was on the west side of the road, facing oncoming traffic, when she was hit from behind by an ‘older model white sedan.’ The vehicle then sped off, turning right on Bear Hollow Drive,” according to charging documents.

The woman suffered head and spinal injuries, as well as bruising on her shoulder and leg, the charges state.

Another driver reported seeing a vehicle making a turn onto Kimball Junction “without stopping or looking,” according to the charges. Using a license plate reader in the area, police identified a possible vehicle involved in the hit-and-run.

Pham was arrested March 14 in Salt Lake City after allegedly hitting another pedestrian and driving off. After Pham was arrested, the license plate on the vehicle he was driving in Salt Lake City matched the one recorded in Summit County, the charges state. Investigators also connected him to several other recent hit-and-run crashes involving pedestrians.

Detectives in Summit County then collected data from Pham’s phone and looked at the time between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. on March 5, 2024.

“The data shows that during those hours, the cellphone was operating throughout (the woman’s) neighborhood. Indeed, at one point, the phone was approximately 100 meters from her home and not far from the location where she was struck by the car. Further, the data shows that (Pham) was loitering in the Park City area before finally leaving toward Morgan and Ogden,” according to charging documents.

Further investigation of Pham’s phone revealed that between Feb. 24 and March 11, 2024, his internet searches included “homeless shelters for young women in Utah,” “mass shooting,” “Utah hookers,” “Ted Bundy,” “the zodiac.killer,” “America’s serial killers” and “murda.”

Pham is currently charged with nine counts of attempted murder in Salt Lake County’s 3rd District Court after allegedly hitting five pedestrians on Feb. 24, Feb. 28 and March 11 last year.

A competency hearing for his Salt Lake charges is scheduled for June 4.
