BRYCE CANYON CITY, Utah — Bryce Canyon National Park is slated to begin construction on the final portion of a hiking and biking path in “late May.”

The last 2.3 mile section of the 22-mile shared use path is expected to take five months to complete.

According to the National Park Service, the project is being completed in partnership with the Federal Highway Administration. It will travel through the park and end at Red Canyon, which is in Dixie National Forest.

Bryce Canyon recommends shuttle use

As construction commences, the National Park Service is advising visitors to use the park’s shuttles to access Bryce and Inspiration points. Drivers may encounter construction equipment and flagging that leads to delays on weekdays.

Shuttle operations will remain normal throughout the project. A 2025 season schedule is available on the National Park Service website.

Since parking lots in the park often fill up, especially in the summer, the park is recommending drivers park at the station in Bryce Canyon City.

During this process, we want to thank our park shuttle partners at Red Canyon Transit for providing safe, predictable transportation to park visitors,” Superintendent Jim Ireland said.

Bryce Point, one of the park’s well known amphitheaters, will remain accessible via hiking the Rim Trail, Bryce Connecter, and the Under the Rim Trail.

Shared use path for cyclists, pedestrians and leashed pets

Off-pavement biking is not allowed in the park, per Bryce Canyon’s website. The shared use paths offers cyclists more opportunities to enjoy riding their bike in the park.

Cycling is also allowed on the park’s main road, which leads to the southern end.

Pets are also allowed on the trail, as long as they remain on-leash. Although they’re allowed in campgrounds and on paved areas, they are not allowed on unpaved trails, park shuttles or in buildings.
