Airman stationed at Hill Air Force Base identified as person killed in cliff jumping incident

SALT LAKE CITY — The man found dead in the Causey Reservoir after he had been cliff jumping without a life jacket was stationed at Hill Air Force Base, authorities confirmed on Monday.
Weber County officials said that 23-year-old Angel Harris of Delaware jumped into the reservoir Saturday afternoon and did not resurface.
Several Weber County first responders arrived at Causey Reservoir to search for Harris, but were unable to find him when initially called in.
“Dive teams began search operations in the reservoir, which lasted several hours. At approximately 9:10 p.m., a Department of Natural Resources remote-operated vehicle located Angel’s body in an area of water approximately 48 feet deep,” Weber County officials said in a press release.
Weber County officials said the preliminary investigation indicates that Harris was cliff jumping into the water without a life jacket and drowned. Harris’s body was sent to the Utah Office of the Medical Examiner for an autopsy.
“Our hearts and sympathies go out to Angel’s family and friends in the wake of this loss. Going forward, we ask that the public be mindful of water safety,” the press release stated.
HAFB confirmed that Harris was an airman assigned to the 388th Fighter Wing at the base and joined them eight months ago as an F-35 avionics apprentice.
““Our hearts go out to the family, friends and our fellow Airmen who lost a close teammate,” said Col. Charles Fallon, 388th Fighter Wing commander. “We all share the sorrow when we lose one of our own. The Air Force is a family, and we will provide every bit of comfort and help that we can during this tragic time.”
Officials remind other visitors that anyone on the Causey Reservoir is required to wear a life jacket due to state law.
