DEER VALLEY — It’s called Deer Valley East Village, and it has a list of luxury accommodations. It includes eight hotels, 32 restaurants, 16 new chairlifts, and 50 miles of hiking and biking trails.

There are also luxury housing developments. But this area has struggled to provide affordable housing for the people who work there. Deer Valley East Village is attempting to bridge that gap by creating a workforce housing parcel as part of their planning.

“A combination of apartments, dormitories, and town homes to serve the workforce needed to make this a luxury resort. And we anticipate over 600 units on that parcel,” said Kurt Krieg, Extell Executive Vice President.

The workforce housing parcel will be within walking distance of the Deer Valley resort. Krieg said this should help alleviate traffic.

Other opportunities in Deer Valley

Opportunities will also be available for military service members. The project is a part of the Morale, Welfare and Recreation program and will set aside 100 hotel rooms that can be utilized by service men and women.

“Those 100 residences are at a discounted rate based on rank for the military to use and they never go away. Just to put that in perspective, if you’re a Private, you pay less than a General, and if you’re a General, you pay higher than a Private. But what we’re really talking about is about $153 a night, which goes up with CPI, which is extremely reasonable,” Krieg said.

The development will include a concierge area specifically for military service members to help them utilize everything that the area has to offer.

“Whether that’s getting ski lessons, or horseback riding, or golf,” Krieg said.

The development is a multi-decade project, but developers have the 2034 Olympics in mind.

“We really hope to have the majority of it done by 2030 to really bring it together and to have the staffing and to get all the hiccups and kinks worked out before the Olympics come,” Krieg said.
