17-year-old driver dies after rear-ending another car in West Valley City, police say

WEST VALLEY CITY — A driver is dead after rear-ending another car near 3500 S. 4600 West Wednesday evening, police said.
On Thursday morning, West Valley City police said the driver who died in the crash was a 17-year-old girl.
According to Sgt. Jason Vincent with the West Valley City Police Department, the girl was going westbound at around 7 p.m. when she crashed into a pickup truck and was killed on impact.
Vincent said the girl was wearing a seatbelt, and no injuries in the other vehicle were reported. He also said the vehicle was allegedly driving at a higher speed than the traffic conditions allowed.
On Thursday morning, investigators were considering the possibility that the sun could have been beaming into the girl’s eyes at the time of the collision, according to WVCPD’s Roxeanne Vainuku.
No other immediate information was provided as the incident is under investigation.
