Sgt. dies after being ejected in rollover crash Sunday

SALT LAKE CITY – The man who died after being ejected from his vehicle when it rolled multiple times in a crash Sunday morning has been identified.

Sgt. Robert Hill, 62, was found by officers and Salt Lake City Fire Department personnel near the car, which had rolled off the road into a field. Hill had worked with the Utah Department of Corrections since 1996, according to the UDC.
The crash occurred about 300 yards south of the intersection near 8000 West and 700 North, near the Utah State Correctional Facility. Hill was heading south when he lost control of the car. No other vehicles were involved, police say.
“The passing of Sgt. Hill is a profound loss for our department and for our entire law enforcement community,” said Jared Garcia, Executive Director of the Utah Department of Corrections. “We extend our deepest sympathies to Robert’s loved ones and colleagues during this incredibly difficult time.”
The UDC is offering assistance to staff at its facilities as they cope with the news, according to the UDC.
