First snow at Snowbird heralds upcoming ski season

SALT LAKE CITY — The recent storms have brought the first snows of the season to Snowbird Ski Resort, heralding the upcoming ski season.

Footage provided by Snowbird shows snow blowing past cameras at Hidden Peak earlier Tuesday afternoon.

The snow did not stick at the resort itself, but the mountain ridges overlooking the runs were tinged white with frost.

The Snowbird Summer Report for Sept. 29 published at 9 a.m. predicted mostly sunny skies until Friday, but the weather had other plans.

Powder Mountain, a ski resort in Eden, UT, joined the winter hype train, announcing Friday, Dec. 12 at 4 p.m. as its opening weekend for the 2025-2026 season.

According to Mike Imes, a media representative working with Powder Mountain, the resort will be offering $24 Night Tickets all season long, including during the opening night.

Powder Mountain joins six other ski resorts that have already announced their opening dates for the upcoming season.

Brian Head – Nov. 7, 2025
Solitude – Nov. 14, 2025
Alta – Nov. 21, 2025
Park City Mountain – Nov. 21, 2025
Woodward Park City – Nov. 28, 2025
Deer Valley Resort – Dec. 1, 2025
Powder Mountain – Dec. 12, 2025

While skiers can begin planning their upcoming trips around the opening days, the resorts remind skiers that they will only be open “conditions permitting.”
