Florida congressman attacked in Park City Friday

SALT LAKE CITY — A Florida congressman said he was attacked by a man on Friday night while attending the Sundance Film Festival in Park City.
Police said 28-year-old Christian Joel Young had entered the High West Distillery by hopping over a security fence after being previously denied access to an invitation-only event.
Young then approached Democratic Congressman Maxwell Alejandro Frost and another individual. According to police, Young made references to Frost’s race before Frost stepped back from Young.
Frost told police that Young said, “we are going to deport you and your kind.” Following the remark, Frost said he pushed Young away from him and his friend.
Young then allegedly yelled a racial slur and punched Frost in the face before turning and running into the crowd.

According to police, after allegedly punching Frost, Young approached two female patrons and began “making strange conversation” that was “racially charged.”
One of the woman told police that after they tried to disengage from the conversation, Young grabbed her and pushed her against the bar, allegedly saying, “You are the kind we are
going to deport. You’re being deported.”
An unnamed man detained Young as security approached to apprehend him. Security told police that Young had a Sundance Film Festival pass in his possession that did not belong to him, though Young allegedly denied knowing where he had gotten the pass to him.
Park City Police later arrested the man, booking him into the Summit County Jail for investigation of aggravated burglary, attempting/assaulting an elected official and assault.
