Juab County Search and Rescue changes support availability due to staffing shortage

SALT LAKE CITY — The Juab County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue announced on Wednesday that they will no longer be available to assist with non-search-and-rescue-related activities, effective immediately.

The reason, cited in a Facebook post from the Juab County Sheriff’s Office, was “a shortage of available personnel.”

“Additionally, we’ve experienced increasing difficulty retaining volunteers due to the high volume of tasks that fall outside the core mission of search and rescue, namely, locating missing or overdue individuals. Our mission must remain focused on emergency response and life-saving efforts, and we feel this is the best course of action to preserve our readiness and team sustainability,” the sheriff’s office stated in the post.

Juab County’s Search and Rescue volunteers have long served the community in several other areas, including traffic control, event security and parking coordination.

“We deeply value our relationships with the community and the organizations we’ve had the privilege to work with over the years. We understand this change may require adjustments on your part, and we regret any inconvenience it may cause,” the sheriff’s office said.
