‘Not too hot and not too cold’ heading into the Labor Day weekend

SALT LAKE CITY — The last holiday weekend of the summer is here, and the weather looks nearly perfect if you have outdoor plans.
KSL Meteorologist Matt Johnson said Labor Day weekend will be not too hot and not too cold. Temperature highs will be in the 80s for most of Northern Utah, with most of the thunderstorms having moved out.
But if you’re heading south for the weekend to, say, St. George, it’s still pretty toasty and could hit 100 degrees on Sunday and Monday.
But there is another issue this weekend. There’s still going to be some smoke in the air.
“And that’s because of some wildfires out west. We’ll likely deal with some kind of level of haze or smoke as we head into the Labor Day weekend,” Johnson said.
Early fall colors
This Labor Day weekend is going to be great for some early fall activities like attending a football game, going for a hike, or maybe grabbing a camping spot.
You might even be able to catch the few patches of fall colors showing up already in the mountains.
Johnson said Cascade Springs usually turns first, but it’s almost two to three weeks earlier than normal this year. And some areas aren’t seeing any fall color changes and are just turning brown and falling off.

Johnson attributed the summer drought affecting some areas more than others. Looks like some areas of Utah will see a quick fall leaf season.
