PROVO — The Missionary Training Center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will soon be under construction — again.

Existing buildings that currently house administrative offices and the cafeteria will be demolished, the Salt Lake City-based faith announced Tuesday. That includes the Wilford Woodruff Administration Building, which has served as the gateway to the 39-acre campus since 1978.

In their place, two new buildings will be constructed “that will enhance the missionary experience,” according to a news release.

“The MTC will remain fully operational throughout the multiyear project,” the church said.

The Provo MTC, located at 2005 N. 900 East, has been no stranger to construction in recent years. In 2017, two six-story training and classroom buildings opened on the south part of the campus where young men and women from all over the world study and prepare for their volunteer proselyting and service assignments. Other buildings that had been used for classrooms were then torn down.

In total, the MTC currently has 16 buildings including classrooms, residence halls and administrative offices, according to the church.

“Missionaries are taught in more than 50 languages as they prepare to share the message of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ around the world,” the church said. “These new facilities will provide an improved environment for learning, growth and spiritual preparation, blessing future generations of missionaries as they begin their service.”
