More than 1,500 motorists stopped for speeding over Thanksgiving weekend

SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Highway Patrol announced Monday more than 1,500 drivers were stopped for speeding over Thanksgiving weekend, that’s according to statistics released Monday by the UHP.

According to the UHP, troopers made 3,385 contacts with motorists from Nov. 24-27. Of those contacts, 1,561 motorists were stopped for exceeding the speed limit. Additionally, 73 drivers were stopped for going an excess of 100 mph. 

The UHP responded to 162 crashes over the holiday weekend, with one fatality. Furthermore, the UHP stopped 29 drivers for DUI. 

There were also 168 drivers stopped for seat belt violations. 

Those numbers are comparable to statistics from the 2021 Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

In 2021, the UHP made contact with 3,104 motorists. During the holiday weekend in 2021, the UHP pulled over 1,703 motorists for speed. 

There were 201 crashes during last year’s holiday weekend, with four fatalities. Additionally, the UHP stopped 33 motorists for DUI. Another 168 drivers were stopped for seat belt violations.
