Murat Suljovic of SLC sentenced after admitting to trying to help ISIS

SALT LAKE CITY — Murat Suljovic, a man from Salt Lake City, will spend the next 10 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to trying to help ISIS.
Suljovic pretended to be a leader of the terrorist group online according to court documents.
A judge sentenced Suljovic to 10 years in federal prison. Additionally, a U.S. District Court Judge sentenced him to 20 years of supervised release.
Suljovic was arrested in 2019. And he pleaded guilty to the charges in November 2020.
Authorities accused him of giving advice to would-be attackers about possible targets.
He also created a video on bomb-making. In a plea deal, he confessed to giving the video to someone he though was interested in performing an attack.
The fact that he did all this while living in Salt Lake City shows the global reach of terrorist networks, according to United States Attorney for Utah Andrea Martinez.
“Suljovic provided advice on potential targets, along with providing a bomb-making tutorial video and advice on how to plan an attack, to people he believed were motivated to carry out a terrorist attack on behalf of ISIS,” Martinez said in a press release.
