Parking garage to be added to the Delta Center

SALT LAKE CITY — A seven-story parking garage could sit on the Southwest corner of the Delta Center by next year

The Salt Lake City Planning Commission has approved plans for the parking garage. Smith Entertainment Group Executive Jim Olson says the demand for parking is growing, especially now that the arena is home to the Utah Mammoth.

“The demanding for our parking continues to grow, especially as we have now doubled the sporting events with HNL hockey and our concerts and other types of events,” said Olsen. 

Olson also says that with the sale of the west block and the Salt Palace Convention Center, they will no longer have access to the parking directly east of the convention center.

In fact, they also don’t currently own any parking near the arena. 

The 91-foot-tall garage is set for the southwest corner of the arena. It would include 452 parking stalls, bike parking, and a loading area leading to the basement.

But the parking garage is not for everyone it would be limited to premium seat or season ticket holders.

Critics are worried about how it will impact traffic downtown.

While the Salt Lake City Planning Commission has approved the plans, they’ll still have to get the thumbs up from the City Council before building can begin next year.
