SALT LAKE CITY — Neighbors in Farmington are speaking out about their experiences after a small airplane flew low over their homes before crashing into the frozen Pineview Reservoir.

Farmington City resident Parker Vaughn posted his experience on Facebook after the low-flying Cessna airplane flew over his house and found the community was just as confused as he was.

“It sounded like an airplane almost hit our house. Within minutes, people started going like, ‘yeah I heard it too.'”

Vaughn said the sound of the plane going over his house was deafening and could be heard throughout the whole house.

According to the website FlightAware, the pilot of the plane was first flying from Ogden-Hinckley Airport to Salt Lake City International Airport.

For the second flight, the pilot traveled back to Ogden-Hinckley Airport.

During the flight to Ogden-Hinckley Airport, the plane flew right over the Farmington neighborhood before crashing into the icy reservoir.

During an interview with KSL TV’s Lauren Steinbrecker, Farmington City resident Courtney England said she was watching the plane go down through her window.

“I was watching it go down, wondering if it was going to fly into one of our neighbors’ houses.”

The Weber Fire District says the plane was doing touch and go landings on the ice before it broke through into the water.

Both pilot and passenger were treated for cold exposure and are safe. The F-A-A and Forest Service are investigating the incident.
