Young child dies after “slow speed” crash in Salt Lake City, police say

SALT LAKE CITY — A young child is dead following what police are calling a “slow speed” crash in Salt Lake City Thursday evening.

Brent Weisberg with the Salt Lake City Police Department said police responded to the scene near 350 East Wilson Ave. around 6 p.m. Upon their arrival, police found a “very young child” with life-threatening injuries.

First responders performed CPR, and then the child was transported to an area hospital. However, they died from their injuries.

We are investigating a slow speed, critical injury crash near 350 East Wilson Avenue (1750 South).

The crash involves a minor who is in critical condition at the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Weisberg said, based on the preliminary investigation, an SUV was “moving at a slow rate of speed” in the driveway when it hit the child. The driver of the SUV stayed on the scene and is cooperating with officers. Weisberg said he is related to the child.

Wilson Ave. was closed between 300 East and 400 East as authorities investigated.
