Gas leak disrupts downtown traffic in Salt Lake City

SALT LAKE CITY — Downtown Salt Lake City saw a few traffic disruptions following the discovery of an underground gas leak. Captain Jefferson of the Salt Lake City Fire Department confirmed that the call was received from Dominion Energy, reporting a gas leak of unknown origin.
Similar incidents are typically associated with construction-related mishaps, but there wasn’t any construction work in the area near the downtown gas leak.
The leak didn’t impact any buildings and no evacuations were needed.
The area around 400 West and South Temple has been temporarily closed to traffic, affecting drivers. The TRAX line in the area has also been suspended.
According to a captain with the SLCFD, crews are preparing to fix the leak. There is no estimated time for clearance at this moment.
Authorities are working hard to fix the issue and keep people safe.
