Man injured after vehicle collides with TRAX train

SALT LAKE CITY — A 78-year-old man is in critical condition after the vehicle he was driving collided with a TRAX train on Tuesday afternoon.
The incident occurred in the area of Decker Lake area of Salt Lake City, roughly 3360 S. 2700 West at 12:15 p.m.
According to Carl Arky, spokesperson for UTA, the man was attempting to turn his vehicle left. However, he turned it into the path of a northbound train. A dog that was in the vehicle was also critically injured.
The train did not derail. Additionally, none of the riders on the train at the time of the incident were injured.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing. The identity of the victim has not been released.
UTA urges the public to be mindful of all warning and safety signals. And to observe them when they are in the area of railroad tracks and railroad stations.
