USU football player dies in cliff diving accident at Porcupine Dam

LOGAN, Utah — Utah State University football player Andre Seldon Jr., has died after a cliff-diving accident at Porcupine Dam.
Cache County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release on Saturday that Seldon was cliff diving around 2:20 p.m. at the reservoir. He did not resurface. The Utah Department of Public Safety dive team found Seldon at 9:05 p.m. that night.
“Our heartfelt condolence go to family and friends of the student-athlete,” Cache County Sheriff’s Office said in the news release. “Students who may be struggling with this event can reach out to the university for mental health services.”
According to a USU, Seldon was a New Mexico State University football player for two seasons. He also spent two seasons at Michigan. He also played football at Belleville High School in Belleville, Michigan.
“Our football program is heartbroken to have to endure the loss of one of our own,” Interim Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator Nate Dreiling said in the USU news release. “Having had a previous relationship with Andre during our time together at New Mexico State, I can tell you he was an incredible person and teammate. Our condolences and prayers go out to Andre’s family as we grieve with them over this tremendous loss.”
USU officials said the school is working to provide the athletics staff and student-athletes emotional and mental support through their grieving process. The school said students could use the school’s counseling and psychological services to help them through this process.
“Our Utah State University Athletics family is devastated over the sudden death of Andre Seldon Jr.,” Vice President and Director of Athletics Diana Sabau said in the USU news release. “We extend our deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, teammates, and all who loved Andre.”
