State troopers will be looking for intoxicated drivers over Easter weekend

SALT LAKE CITY — Utah Highway Patrol (UHP) is on the lookout for intoxicated drivers over Easter weekend. Expect to see more state troopers on the roads as they push to crack down on those driving under the influence.
Starting Friday, UHP will deploy an extra 50 DUI shifts as well as 84 extra traffic enforcement shifts. Additionally, troopers will conduct a statewide DUI Blitz each night from Friday to Sunday.
“We want everyone to enjoy their weekend and get where they’re going safely,” said UHP Colonel Michael Rapich. “Make sure you buckle up, focus on driving, drive sober and follow the speed limit.”
An increased patrol was also instated last weekend due to heavy traffic from spring break travelers. UHP expects similar travel volumes this weekend.
Troopers advise if you plan on consuming alcohol, have a safe and sober way to get home. Do not be one of the intoxicated drivers. If caught drinking and driving, at a minimum, individuals arrested for DUI face the loss of their driver’s license, vehicle impoundment and around $10,000 in fines and fees.
