LAYTON, Utah — Motorists in Davis County are about to get some good news.

The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) announced Friday that two new interchanges on U.S. Highway 89 in Layton will open as early as Sunday, Aug. 22.

Openings in Layton

The interchanges at Gordon Avenue and Oak Hills Drive in Layton are the latest openings on the U.S. Highway 89 construction project through Davis County. Earlier this month, UDOT opened the 400 North interchange in Kaysville. It was the first completed intersection of the project.

With the opening of the intersection at Gordon Avenue, drivers will have another direct route to I-15.

“This is a transformative project that will enhance the quality of life for residents here in eastern Davis County,” UDOT Executive Director Carlos Braceras said. “We have now removed stoplights from four intersections along the highway, which will decrease the likelihood of crashes, improve travel times, reduce traffic congestion and improve air quality. We’re making it easier for people to get where they want to go.”

UDOT to restrict lanes

UDOT says motorists should expect lane restrictions this weekend on U.S. Highway 89 as it prepares to open the new interchanges.

Construction on the U.S. Highway 89 project will now move to the final interchange at Antelope Drive. This part of the project will include new bridges at Nicholls Road and Crestwood Road. Additionally, workers are widening U.S. Highway 89 to three lanes in each direction. They are also putting in  new pavement.
