SPANISH FORK, Utah — The Utah Highway Patrol is investigating a nine-car chain reaction accident Thursday that involved a Spanish Fork fire engine.
According to Sgt. Cameron Roden of the UHP, the fire engine was enroute to a separate injury crash on northbound I-15 near milepost 255.
The UHP says the fire engine entered the freeway from the milepost 253 onramp. It crossed over to the emergency lane on the left shoulder.
Roden says the UHP is trying to figure out if the fire engine was too close to the vehicle. Or, if it was the vehicle sticking out that caused the fire engine to strike it and create a nine-car chain reaction.
According to the UHP, three firefighters on the engine were transported to an area hospital as a precaution. The first and second vehicles that were hit each had an adult and four children inside. They were also transported to an area hospital with minor injuries.
