INDIANAOLA, Sanpete County — Both directions of U.S. 89 were closed for a time on Thursday after a fatal crash involving a semitruck, according to the Sanpete Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post that a crash occurred on U.S. 89 at mile marker 293, just south of Big Hollow Road.
The Department of Public Safety said the crash involved a 68-year-old male driving a 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe.
Officials said they suspect the driver had a medical emergency before he crossed the center line and crashed head-on into the semitruck, according to DPS.
Cpl. Luis Silva with the Utah Highway Patrol said the area was closed for a few more hours for investigation.
DPS said the driver of the Tahoe died at the scene, while the driver of the semitruck suffered minor injuries.
