SALT LAKE CITY — Dozens of adjustments and new bus routes will be in service starting this weekend.

Starting Sunday, the Utah Transit Authority will improve their service coverage by over a million service miles and more than 100,000 service hours in Salt Lake, Davis and Utah Counties.

“We’re adding new bus routes, 350 new stops, and improving frequency on several of the routes,” said Gavin Gustafson, UTA’s senior public information officer.

These changes are part of UTA’s Five Year Service Plan, currently spanning from 2025 through 2029.

“It really lays out what we’re doing in our efforts throughout the entire region to improve quality of life by increasing overall access to transit, restoring services in areas where maybe it was previously reduced,” Gustafson said.

He added that some of the most impactful changes include a new bus route offering service through Bluffdale, Herriman and Riverton, direct TRAX access to the Ballpark at America First Square, and overall increased bus frequency.

“Being able to provide more service more frequently, it’s really the name of the game,” he said. “If people can just show up to a bus stop and not have to worry when the bus is going to be there, that it’s going to be there within 10 or 15 minutes, that really makes the system run a lot better for everybody. Better for us and better for our riders as well.”

Other noted impactful changes include newly offered On Demand services in the West Provo and Orem areas, and an upgrade to the Midtown Trolley in Davis County by turning it into a full fixed bus service.

All new changes and services will be open starting Sunday and Monday.

Changes to Salt Lake, Davis and Utah Counties

Salt Lake County:

  • New route 126 offering bus service through Bluffdale, Herriman and Riverton. Service will link to FrontRunner and connect Draper to Daybreak from the end of the TRAX Blue Line to the end of the TRAX Red Line.
  • New route 219 connecting from 14400 South Redwood to the Sandy Civic Center Station on the TRAX Blue Line.
  • New South Jordan Downtown Station for the TRAX Red Line. The line opened on March 26 and serves as a direct access point to The Ballpark at America First Square, the new home for the Salt Lake Bees.
  • Bus frequency increases to routes 39, 201, and 218.

Davis County:

  • New bus route 417 offering service through Woods Cross, North Salt Lake and Rose Park. Links to FrontRunner and the TRAX Green Line.
  • New route 628 Layton Westside will replace the Midtown Trolley and charge a local fare. The more extensive route will provide access, including paratransit, to new areas.
  • Adjustments to routes 470, 626 and 627.

Utah County:

  • New UTA On Demand services available in West Provo/Orem areas, covering 8.6 square miles.
  • New route 823 to offer service through Provo, Springville and Spanish Fork. Route will link to FrontRunner at the Provo Center Station.
  • Adjustments to the Tech Corridor Rail Connector. Route 871 connecting Sandy to Lehi.
