Utah family rescued after van rolls into Snake River in Idaho

SALT LAKE CITY — A Utah family of six was rescued after their van rolled into the Snake River Monday afternoon.
According to a press release from the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office in Idaho, the family was returning home from a camping trip when their van went off the road and rolled into the Snake River near the Fall Creek Campground.
The driver, an adult male, called for help at approximately 12:20 p.m. He told emergency personnel that he, his wife and their four children were stuck inside the van as it filled with water and floated downstream.
As emergency personnel arrived, each family member was still in the van, but their heads were above water. Responders safely extracted the family from their van and onto the shore using rope and dive equipment to haul them up the river embankment.
The press release stated that the family escaped the event uninjured.
Snake River Road was closed for approximately two hours as crews worked to remove the van from the river.
An investigation revealed the van may have been traveling too close to the edge of the road, causing it to fall off the road and roll into the river.
