SALT LAKE CITY — A 22-year-old man died after falling from a balcony at a student housing building at the Utah Tech University campus.

According to St. George Fire Department Chief Robert Stoker, the SGFD and Gold Cross Ambulance responded to a fall from a balcony Sunday evening. The patient was transported to a hospital, where he passed away due to his injuries.

The incident is being handled by the Utah Tech Police Department.

Utah Tech released the statement below:

Utah Tech University is devastated by the loss of a member of our Utah Tech family. His presence will be deeply missed on campus. Mental health professionals from UT’s Booth Wellness Center as well as resources on the SafeUT app and the 988 lifeline are available for students, faculty and staff needing assistance processing this tragedy. We are thinking of the family and friends and will continue to support one another as we grieve together during this difficult time.

The Utah Tech Police Department later identified the man as Utah Tech freshman Jordon Konanui-Kong. The department received a 911 call at approximately 5:45 p.m., and said he fell from the balcony of his fifth-floor room in the Campus View Suites II.

“No additional information is available at this time, as an investigation, which was conducted as part of standard operating procedure, is still ongoing,” the department said.
