Two West Valley City schools released from SECURE protocol, after shots fired

WEST VALLEY CITY — Both Granger High School and West Lake STEM Jr. High were released from SECURE protocol after an investigation into shots fired nearby, according to the West Valley City Police Department.
According to WVCPD, the incident occurred near the area of 3500 W. 3500 South.
Police said an argument between two groups of teenagers turned physical, which ended when one of the teens produced a weapon and fired into the air.
Andrea Stringham with the Granite School District said both schools were placed into SECURE protocol.
“To be clear, there have been no threats made to our school or students,” Stringham said. “The SECURE protocol was initiated and later lifted at the direction of law enforcement.”
Strigham said that students would be released normally, and the WVCPD continued their investigation.
No one has been injured, according to the WVCPD.
