SALT LAKE CITY — A woman is recovering after being impaled by a piece of rebar pipe on state Route 189 on Monday afternoon.
Lt. Cameron Roden with the Utah Highway Patrol said a vehicle was driving northbound on the highway when the rebar came through the front windshield and pinned the 18-year-old woman to her passenger seat.
Roden said that a medical helicopter was called in to transport the woman, but she was transported to the hospital by ambulance.
Both directions of traffic were closed since 3 p.m. but reopened around 4:20 p.m.
Roden said the woman was transported in critical condition, and UHP is investigating where the rebar pipe originated.
