Audit: Kids at risk while child care providers appeal violations

Nov 15, 2017, 8:29 AM

A state audit finds kids could be at risk at Utah day cares.

The facilities can keep operating even after confirmed cases of abuse or safety violations.

The audit says all a child care facility has to do is appeal, and that stops the sanctions against them for the time being.

That allows providers to still access children even in a confirmed case of abuse, or safety or health violations.

And there’s no restrictions or enhanced supervision either.

The audit says it is imperative that children are protected throughout the process.

Meanwhile, they also found out that Utah’s assisted living centers are not regularly inspected, and delayed inspections are uncovering more serious violations.
