Lawsuit against Provo and former mayor over former police chief

A new lawsuit claims the city of Provo and former Mayor John Curtis, failed to protect women against sexual harassment and assault by the former chief of police.
Five women say Provo failed to prevent misconduct or discipline Chief John King after the allegations came to light in 2015 and 2016.
The suit also claims the city hired King, without looking into his background.
King resigned in 2017 for family reasons, at the request of then Mayor Curtis. Curtis says in a statement that he did not protect a predator, he acted responsibly with the information he had at the time, and he strongly condemns King’s reported actions.
The Deseret News reports City Council members knew about allegations well before King resigned. You can read that article here
Two of the women in the lawsuit spoke to the Daily Herald. That report is here.
