LAYTON — A Vietnam veteran is months away from a three-year project to bring a war memorial to Utah.
Fifty years ago Dennis Howland left Vietnam, promising the soldiers who died in his company that he would find a way to make sure the world remembered they fought with honor.
“So it was the fulfillment of a promise,” Howland said.
He helped raise $500,000 in the last 3 1/2 years to recreate the war memorial in Washington D.C and bring a smaller version to Layton. The land was donated by the city and will be dedicated on July 14th.
“We’ll have it in the late afternoon, because of the heat of course,” Howland explained.
Howland says they also plan to do a solemn walk to the wall with other veterans and their families that day to honor the men and women who died in that war.
If you’d like to donate or ask questions about the wall, you can reach Howland here.
