SLC Airport expects a crowded Christmas travel season

SALT LAKE CITY — It’s four days until Christmas and if you’re headed home for the holidays, be sure to pack your patience.
The daily average is 22,500 passengers at Salt Lake International Airport and Utah’s Federal Security Director, Mark Lewis, says the airport is fully staffed in preparation for the holidays.
“It’s going to be very crowded, I advise people to get here two hours early. We could hit a record number that day, certainly thousands in excess of our daily average,” said Lewis.
Lewis says the good economy has people feeling comfortable traveling with Christmas around the corner, “Friday, Saturday, Sunday before Christmas will be very busy. The day after Christmas could be a record at this airport.”
That’s the day when everyone will be heading home and expects to see thousands more than their daily average.
Lewis says that they have overtime workers to handle everyone but those who plan on flying need to do their own part to avoid slowing down people behind them.
