SALT LAKE CITY — A long-serving KSL TV weatherman, Bob Welti, has died.

His family confirms Bob Welti passed away Tuesday afternoon.

Welti was a well-known figure on Utah television screens. Combined with Dick Nourse and Paul James on Channel 5, Welti’s 26 years on KSL TV made his one of the most recognizable faces in Utah.

Kent Norton worked side by side with Welti for many years.  “It’s something you’re born with, being able to connect with people one-on-one, through the camera,”  Norton said.  “And he had an extraordinary ability in that regard.”

Norton remembered going to daily weather briefings with Welti at the Federal Building downtown.  Norton said he saw Welti about a year-and-a-half ago. He said although his health had declined, Welti’s warmth and personality were still intact.

Before coming to KSL, Welti did weather on Salt Lake City’s Channel 4, arriving there in 1947 after serving in World War II as a Navy Pilot.

Since his retirement in 1991, Welti helped run a public relations firm and spent hours volunteering in numerous capacities.

We want to hear from you.
