SALT LAKE CITY – The state of Utah has launched a new website to give people scientific information about earthquakes, as well as practical advice to help you prepare for an emergency.

In a press release from the Utah Office of Emergency Management, earthquakes.utah.gov has several sections, including:

  • Answers to frequently asked questions and rumors about earthquakes in Utah, including family preparedness, geology, and seismic safety.
  • Information about the Magna earthquake on March 18, 2020 and its aftershocks.
  • Advice on what Utahns can do before, during, and after an earthquake.
  • What to do about unreinforced masonry buildings, as well as available tax credits and grant programs to help make buildings more earthquake safe.
  • Scientific information, including the probabilities of future earthquakes in Utah, locations of faults in the state, and a scenario of what would happen if a magnitude 7.0 earthquake.

There is also information about how to report damage from earthquakes, as well as resources for people who need advice on how to help speak with relatives who are still nervous about the last shaker.

We want to hear from you.
