Tooele announces new police chief
TOOELE, Utah — Tooele City announced Thursday the retirement of Ron Kirby, the city’s police chief for the past 23 years, and the appointment of Adrian Day as the new police chief.
Day, the assistant police chief under Kirby, will assume his new position Sunday. This appointment became official with the City Council’s unanimous consent on Wednesday night.
Day has served as a police officer with the Tooele City Police Department since 2001, and has held several positions during that time including: Assistant Chief, Captain, Investigations Lieutenant, Patrol Lieutenant, Patrol Sergeant, Detective, and Patrol Officer.
Day is a graduate of Northwestern University’s School of Staff and Command in 2020. He earned his bachelor’s degree in sociology with an emphasis in criminology from the University of Utah in 2001. In addition, Day also graduated from the Utah Police Corps Academy in 2001. He also holds peace officer certification with the Utah Department of Public Safety’s Police Officer Standards and Training.
“After conducting a thorough search throughout the country for a new police chief, I found that I didn’t have to look far,” said Tooele City Mayor Debbie Winn. “Captain Day is the right person to continue the honorable leadership of the Tooele City Police Department. He has the respect of his fellow officers, inside and outside of the department. He is a man of integrity, who truly loves to serve his fellow man.”
