KEARNS, Utah — An 18-year-old male was taken into custody Wednesday evening after he allegedly shot at a 12-year-old sibling during a family altercation, which subsequently prompted a shelter in place.
According to Melody Cutler, of Unified Police, officers were tracked down in the area of 6083 South Longmore and notified of the situation just before 6 p.m.
Cutler says the sibling was not injured, but the suspect also pointed a weapon at another family member. He then fled the home.
Cutler says because the suspect was running through a residential area with a weapon the shelter in place was issued.
The Kearns Olympic Oval was placed on lockdown, according to Cutler. Additionally, the area around the Kearns Recreation Center was also placed on lockdown.
K-9 units from Unified, West Jordan and West Valley were brought in to help in the search for the suspect. A helicopter from Department of Public Safety was also called into the search.
According to Cutler, the suspect was located and taken into custody at roughly 7:30 p.m.
