SALT LAKE CITY, — March 23 marks National Puppy Day, but this year it also signals the start of the Best Friends Animal Society’s Adopt Local Challenge. The initiative will run from March 23 to April 30 and aims to drive Utah to a ‘no-kill state’ status.

The shelter said it created the month-long challenge to achieve a crucial milestone in animal welfare.

The challenge’s success ensures that at least 90% of the animals entering the shelter system will leave alive and not be killed due to overcrowding.

As the Adopt Local Challenge kicks off on National Puppy Day, Utah residents have the opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of local dogs and cats, while helping them find their forever homes.
