SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Department of Workforce Services released the  jobs report March on Friday morning.

In the past 12 months, job rates increased an estimated 2.7%. Additionally, the state added a cumulative 44,100 jobs since March 2022. Utah’s current job count stands at 1,705,400.

The unemployment rate for March is an estimated at 2.4%. Approximately 41,700 Utahns are reported to be unemployed.

The March national unemployment rate moved down one notch to 3.5%.

The Department of Workforce Services Deputy Director, Nate McDonald joined KSL’S Utah Morning News to discuss the report.

McDonald said that Utah’s been holding steady for several months. Though there have been some layoffs, those have been absorbed by other markets.

“When you look at all of our industries across the board, we measure 10 private sector industries, 9 of the 10 still have positive job growth,” McDonald said.

He also noted that sectors that saw the biggest hits during the pandemic, education, health services and leisure and hospitality, “those are our leading job growth imdustries right now.”
